Overall Winners of Note

Overall Winners of the last 49 editions of the International Air Rally of Malta have come from Austria (2), Denmark (1), Finland (1), France (4), Germany (12), N Ireland (3), Switzerland (4) and the UK (22).

Per Bruel won the very first Malta Rally, flying a Piper PA12 Aztec (OY-BKI). All the following won three times each.

- David Surridge, from N Ireland, in 1970 in a Piper Comanche PA24 (G-ARUN), then in 1973 and 1974 in a Beech Baron
- Ian Cummings, from the UK, in the consecutive years 1977, 1978 and 1979 in a Piper Arrow 200 (G-AYII). He again took part in 1980 – but opted to be a non-competing rallyist.
- John Keates, also from the UK, in the consecutive years 1988, 1989 and 1990 in a Cessna C182 (G-HUFF). He took part again as crew member in 2002.
- Michel Horat, from Switzerland, in the consecutive years 2005, 2006 and 2007 in a Cessna 182S (HB-CYO). On only his second participation in 2005, he set a different - but incredible - record. Michel Horat placed First in All Four Qualifying Competitions - Arrival, Timed Section, Flight Planning and Concours d’Elegance.
